My name is
Neola Castelino and I am 14 years old. I study in Our Own English High School, Sharjah.
Protecting the environment has always been my passion. I started my campaign for recycling at the age of nine.
This year I plan on campaigning and collecting as many recyclables as I can. Over the years, I’ve organized many events and activities engaging people to give back to Mother Earth through green living and recycling.
To date, I have contributed more than 14,000kgs of newspaper, 4,000kgs of aluminum cans and have recycled more than 6,000 plastic bottles at the Bee’ah Reverse Vending Machine (RVM). As a proud resident of the UAE, I am trying to give my best in making this place more green!
Some tips for being eco-friendlier:
- Try keeping the air conditioner at the optimal temperature of 24° Celsius.
- Re-use as much as possible! Reducing usage of single-use plastic like straws, plastic cups etc.
- Prevent using heavy appliances like washing machines and dishwashers during peak hours (12pm-6pm).
- Try doing your shopping using tote bags.
- Use public transport, carpool or walk whenever possible.
- Stop using disposable bowls, plates, spoons, knives and forks!
- Unplug and not just switch off appliances before going to bed.
- Last but not least, BE AWARE. We should pay attention to how we use our resources and how we can make better eco-friendly choices.
